Administration
To register click on the 'Online Registration Portal'. When you register you will create a 'Personal Portal' where you will be able to access all the training (seminar) documentation e.g. joining instructions, programme, attendance certificate, etc
IMPORTANT: Your 'Personal Portal' will only remain live for a finite period of time. Therefore, please ensure you download any documenation promptly and save it to your electronic device
What must I bring?
Please bring the following items:
- Personal flying logbook(s) showing:
- instructional experience, if claiming hours for revalidation only
(NOT required if renewing i.e. instructor certifcate has expired)
- instructional experience, if claiming hours for revalidation only
- Licence(s):
- UK, EASA (as applicable)
- if you are renewing after a long lay off please bring old licence(s) showing previous instructor certificate - it could save you money!
- please keep your licence pages together inside your licence cover. This will make the task of checking your licence much easier
- Photographic identification e.g. passport, driving licence, etc
- Assessment of Competence examiners report (if completed)
Note: Even if you only want an attendance certificate please bring all the items requested as we have a duty of care to check all your licence(s) and/or logbook(s) because we might save you some embarrassment and/or money
Logbooks and/or licences will be taken in at registration on day one and returned by the end of the training (seminar). Due to the large number of logbooks and/or licences to be checked in the time allowed instructor certificate revalidation/renewal will only be possible where the completion of the requirements is clearly visible. Therefore, you are strongly advised to clearly mark or summarise the instructional hours claimed in your logbook when revalidating by experience
Workshops
You will be assigned to a workshop that reflects your instructional privileges. The workshop will be facilitated by a member of the On-Track Aviation team. The content will be based on section 1 theoretical knowledge oral of AMC3 FCL.935 Assessment of Competence. Therefore, you might wish to review UK CAA Standards Document 10 (Question Bank) prior to attending the training (seminar)
Documents
Documentation for the training (seminar) will be available to download through your 'Personal Portal'. Some documentation is 'Time Released' meaning you will only be able to download it within a specified date/time before access is denied. There are no hard copies of the documents available
Certificate of Attendance
Attendance from you will be required for the whole duration of the training (seminar) including the workshops. On completion of the training (seminar) a Certificate of Attendance will be uploaded to your 'Personal Portal', a copy of which you may need to send to your National Aviation Authority with your application to revalidate/renew your instructor certificate
Revalidation
Complete 2 of the following requirements:
(a) For FI / IRI - complete 50 hours of flight instruction during the period of validity. If the privileges to instruct for the IR are to be revalidated, 10 of these hours shall be flight instruction for an IR, and shall have been completed within the last 12 months preceding the expiry of the instructorI certificate (see notes 2, 3, 4)
OR
(a) For CRI - complete 10 hours of flight instruction during the period of validity (see notes 4, 5)
(b) completed instructor refresher training (seminar) at an ATO or at the National Aviation Authority during the period of validity
(c) pass an assessment of competence within 12 months preceding instructor certificate expiry (see notes 1, 6, 7)
Notes:
1. An assessment of competence must be included as part of the revalidation requirements at every alternate revalidation
2. The 10 hours instrument instruction is not required if you teach only for the UK IMC rating / IR (Restricted)
3. The 10 hours IR instruction can be completed in either in a SE or ME class/type if both SE and ME instructional privileges are held
4. Hours flown as an examiner during skill tests or proficiency checks shall be credited in full towards revalidation requirements for all instructor certificates held
5. CRI holding both SE and ME instructional privileges the hours of flight instruction shall be equally divided between SE and ME aeroplanes
6. If you need to complete an Assessment of Competence then it should be done last in accordance with FCL.1030(ii) (see UK note)
7. In the UK holders of both SE and ME instructional privileges do not need to complete two separate assessments of competence. Either a flight in a SE or ME will be acceptable. The other privilege will be examined by oral questions on the ground. This is not necessary the case in EASA
8. When an assessment of competence is used for revalidation/renewal of an instructor certificate, it should be completed as the final item (see note 6). If the applicant fails to achieve a pass in the assessment before the expiry date of the instructor certificate he / she shall not exercise the privileges of that certificate until the assessment has successfully been completed
FCL.1030 When conducting skill tests, proficiency checks and assessments of competence, examiners shall:
(i) ensure that communication with the applicant can be established without language barriers
(ii) verify that the applicant complies with all the qualification, training and experience requirements in Part FCL for the issue, revalidation or renewal of the licence, rating or certificate for which the skill test, proficiency check or assessment of competence is taken
(iii) make the applicant aware of the consequences of providing incomplete, inaccurate or false information related to their training and flight experience
UK note: Notwithstanding FCL.1030(ii) the UK CAA will accept the completion of the assessment of competence and instructor refresher training (seminar) in any order
Renewal
Complete both of the following requirements within 12 months preceding FI or CRI certificate renewal:
(a) completed instructor refresher training at an ATO or at the National Aviation Authority (see note 3)
(b) pass an assessment of competence (see notes 1, 2)
Notes:
1.
In the UK holders of both SE and ME instructional privileges do not need to complete two separate assessments of competence. Either a flight in a SE or ME will be acceptable. The other privilege will be examined by oral questions on the ground. This is not necessarily the case in EASA
2. You should complete the refresher training before the Assessment of Competence in accordance with FCL.1030(ii) (see UK note)
3. Refresher training for an FI or IRI shall be in the form of a seminar in accordance with AMC1 FCL.940.FI(a)(2). Refresher training for a CRI need not take the form of a seminar
UK note: Notwithstanding FCL.1030(ii) the UK CAA will accept the completion of the assessment of competence and refresher training in any order
