  Flight Instructor Course (FIC) Instructor Training Day  
 

Introduction

This 1-day training course is designed for candidates who are preparing for the CAA Initial Assessment to become an FIC instructor. The FIC Training Day covers all the elements of the CAA Initial Assessment procedure.

Our expertise as an instructor training establishment has been recognised by the CAA as two memebers of our staff are regularly involved in the FIC instructor Initial Assessment interviews. In addition, they are also asked to conduct both the FIC Preparatory Course and Proficiency Check.

 

Pre-Entry Requirements

(a) Hold a valid ATPL (A) or CPL (A) (not BCPL)

(b) Hold a valid FI rating (not a FI (R) or AFI)

(c) Have 500 hours ab-initio flying instructional experience as the holder of a FI rating in aeroplanes

(d) Have a letter of recommendation from the FTO at which courses will be conducted

(e) FIC application has been accepted by CAA (Initial Assessment date, if known)

Aim

The aim of the FIC Training Day is to prepare the prospective FIC instructor for the CAA initial Assessment.

Objectives

The candidate must be able to:

(a) State the pre-entry requirements for the FIC and describe the standard expected on the pre-entry flight check

(b) Explain the content, structure and length of the FIC

(c) Illustrate how the flying and ground tuition is to be integrated

(d) Identify selected student learning attitudes and explain how to resolve them

(e) Describe how to teach selected JAA PPL flight exercises

(f) Illustrate the practical application of selected JAA PPL theoretical knowledge subjects

Pre-Course Material

Prior to attending this course each candidate shall have a very good working knowledge of:

When courses are conducted at a candidate's own flying school the above documents shall be made available for the duration of the course.

FIC administration (Training records)
Form and Duration of the FIC (full time / part time, give / give back)
Integration of flying and ground tuition

AICs applicable to FIC / JAA PPL / UK NPPL syllabus
Changes to legislation affecting FICs
Dealing with student learning attitudes

Integration of JAA CPL / ATPL theoretical knowledge with JAA PPL theoretical knowledge

Explanation of basic teaching techniques of the JAA PPL exercises

Question and answer session
