There is no Skill Test at the end
of the night instructor course

General
An FI or FI (R) or AFI who wishes to give night flying instruction must have the night instruction restriction removed from their instructors rating. The course must be conducted by an FIC instructor qualified to give night flying instruction. There is no formal test or check at the end of the training.
Pre-Course Entry Requirements
Before being permitted to begin an approved course of training the candidate shall have:
(a) At least the licence, rating and qualification for which instruction is being given
(b) A current qualification to act as PIC of aeroplanes at night
Ground Training
The mandatory training for the night instructor course requires a total of 2 hours of ground instruction on subjects associated with night flying including:
- Night Operations
- Night Visual Circuits
- Night Navigation
- Night Emergencies
Flying Training
The flight training element of the night instructor course consists of 1 hour of dual instruction.
Note: The CAA Chief Flight Examiner recommends that additional night navigation training should be included in the flying syllabus. This is not mandatory under JAR-FCL 1
Instructor Skill Test
There are no formal tests on completion of the night instructor course.

Privileges
Permits the holder to give ground and flight training appropriate to the issue of the night qualification.
Validity
Remains valid so long as the FI or FI (R) or AFI rating remains valid.
Revalidation / Renewal
The ability to teach night flying may be checked during the FI or FI (R) or AFI revalidation / renewal process |
