It appears that many of you would like the opportunity to discuss training issues, EASA Part FCL regulations and many other topics with fellow instructors and examiners. On-Track Aviation in conjunction with the LAA PCS have joined forces to provide a forum for all of the above as well as giving you the chance to improve your teaching techniques.
The seminar is designed to be a forum where instructors of all ages and abilities can express their views with out fear of any retribution. By the end of the seminar you will be more knowledgeable about EASA and better equipped to deal with your students needs and aspirations.

Revalidation / Renewal Requirements
For the revalidation of a Class Rating Instructor Rating the holder shall within the preceeding 12 months of the expiry date fulfil one of the requirements listed below:
- conduct at least 10 hours (see notes 1 & 2) flight instruction in the role as CRI
- conduct refresher training to the satisfaction of the CAA
- receive refesher training as a CRI (the seminar counts towards this element)
Notes:
1.
If the CRI holds both ME and SE privileges the 10 hours shall be split equally between the SE and ME aeroplanes
2. If the CRI is both seaplane and landplane qualified the instructional hours can be conducted in either the seaplane or the landplane or split between both by any value e.g. 3 hours seaplane and 7 hours landplane. An amphibious aeroplane falls into both categories and therefore 10 hours instructional in an amphibious aeroplane is all that the CRI requires to revalidate the instructor rating
For the renewal of a Class Rating Instructor Rating the holder shall fulfill both of the requirements listed below within 12 months preceding application:
- received refresher training as a CRI to the satisfaction of the CAA (the seminar counts towards this element)
- passed an instructor proficiency check (iaw JAR-FCL 1.330 and 1.345)
CRI Seminars Open to Non-Instructors
The CRI Seminars are primarily aimed at CRIs but the information included in the seminar would also benefit any current licence holder. Therefore, On-Track are happy to allow any current licence holder to attend the seminar. It must be noted that availability for CRIs must take preference and non-instructors will be able to attend where spaces are available. The cost of attendance for non-instructors is the same as for CRIs
Programme
The seminar is organised in accordance with the requirements laid down in JAR-FCL. The seminar will cover 1 day and will include presentations and group discussions. Formal sessions will allow for a presentation time of up to 45 minutes followed by 15 minutes for questions. It is an interactive programme and is designed such that all delegates gain the maximum benefit from their time at the seminar. Candidates are required to attend all sessions of the seminar in order to qualify for the Certificate of Attendance and if relevant the revalidation / renewal signature on their instructor rating. The subjects covered include:
- EASA Part FCL
- Licensing and Revalidation
- Airspace Infringements
- Standardisation of instructional techniques
- Single Pilot CRM
- Mentoring PPLs
Administration
You will be sent an information package which is designed to give you all the information you require in order to fully prepare for the seminar. A name badge and a workbook will be given to you on arrival.
What must I bring?
Please bring ALL of the following items irrespective of whether you are Renewing or Revalidating your rating. We are required to check them.
- Personal flying logbook(s)
- Licence(s) - bring all JAA / UK licences (see note)
- Identification bearing a photograph of the candidate eg. passport, airline ID, etc
Note: Please ensure that your licence only contains current and valid pages and that all the old pages and certificates are removed prior to attending the seminar. This will make the task of checking your licence much easier
On completion of the seminar you shall be issued with a Certificate of Attendance which can be placed in your logbook. Should you wish to have your instructor rating revalidated you must ensure that:
- You have completed an Instructor Form 3 (SRG1135) (download from CAA website www.caa.co.uk) (see note 3)
- Your licence, Class/Type rating(s) and medical are valid and current
- Clear logbook evidence of having completed either:
- conducted at least 10 hours (see notes) flight instruction in the role as CRI
- conducted refresher training to the satisfaction of the CAA
- passed an instructor proficiency check (iaw JAR-FCL 1.330 and 1.345)
Notes: 1.
An amphibious aeroplane falls into both categories and therefore 10 hours instruction in an amphibious aeroplane is all that the CRI requires to revalidate the instructor rating
3. If you are renewing (i.e. it has expired) your instructor rating do not complete section 6 Instructional Flying Experience. If you are revalidating by experience, remember that the hours relate to to the 12 months preceding the expiry of your CRI rating - not preceding the Seminar. If, at the time of the Seminar, you meet the hours criteria, then complete section 6. If you don’t yet meet the criteria (e.g. the rating has 3 months to run and you have only 8 hours’ instruction in the previous 9 months) leave section 6 blank.
Logbooks and licences will be taken in at registration and returned at the end of the seminar. Due to the large number of logbooks and licences to be checked in the time allowed instructor rating revalidation will only be possible where the completion of the requirements is clearly logged. Therefore, candidates are strongly advised to bookmark the CRI flight test in their logbooks before attending the seminar
