to provide Ground Tuition for the PPL. Over the next few years we expanded our portfolio of training to include UK CAA / JAA Approved Instructor Seminars which have been very popular with instructors in both the UK and Overseas including Ireland, USA, Malta and Europe.
The company was renamed in April 2001 as On-Track Aviation Limited and a decision was taken to specialise in training for professional pilot qualifications only. Therefore we do not conduct PPL flight training nor are we a membership organisation. So without these constraints we are able to deliver a friendly, quiet and unrestricted teaching and learning environment for all students on our courses.
After the success of the Instructor Seminars we continued to expand into the specialist area of instructor training and in July 2001 gained UK CAA / JAA Approval to conduct Flight Instructor Courses and Associated Additional Qualifications.
We are one of only a handfull of FTO's specialising in Part Time Instructor Courses in addition to offering 'First Step' (combined CPL and FI course) for those individuals aiming only to become an instructor. Our Modular CPL courses are taught on a one-to-one basis giving you a huge training advantage over the larger schools. Our company is unique in the UK as it is the only FTO offering Seaplane Instructor Courses on single engine aeroplanes as well as training and testing for the SEP (Sea) Class Rating and the Seamanship Examination.
On-Track is the only instructor training organisation outside the military which has written its own comprehensive instructor guide called 'Instructional Techniques for the Flight Instructor'. The authors, Alan Newton and John Halstead, wrote the book as a guide for students attending instructor courses with On-Track Aviation. Moreover, the book has been adopted as a training manual by a number of other flying schools and is recommended reading by the CAA for all categories of instructor. For more information click here
Our expertise as an instructor training organisation has been recognised by the CAA as memebers of our staff are regularly involved in the Flight Instructor Course (FIC) Instructor Initial Assessment Interviews which are held at a variety of CAA Regional Test Centres and at On-Track Aviation. In addition, they also conduct the FIC Instructor Proficiency Check which is the final test the FIC instructor applicant is required to pass prior to being authorised. To held prospective applicants On-Track Aviation offers a variety of FIC instructor training programmes.
As a corporate member of AOPA (UK) we are able to train and test for the AOPA (UK) Ground Instructor Course which is aimed at anyone who wishes to teach the PPL theoretical knowledge subjects. As alot of our staff have many years of teaching aerobatics, and have been involved in military display flying, we can also offer training and testing for the AOPA (UK) Aerobatic Certificates as well as the Removal of the Aerobatic Instruction Restriction from your instructor rating. We can also offer ground tuition for the AOPA (UK) Navigation Certificate Course. This course is designed to encourage pilots who hold either a JAR / UK PPL or UK NPPL to obtain formal training in radio navigation procedures for use under Visual Flight Rules in accordance with the privileges of their licences.
Besides instructor training On-Track Aviation can offer Class Rating Examiner (CRE) and PPL Flight Examiner (PPL FE) training and testing on both single and multi-engine aeroplanes including single engine seaplanes. On-Track is also a training and test centre for the UK FRTOL (Flight Radio Telephony Licence).
Our company has developed into a well respected UK CAA / JAA Approved Flying Training Organisation (UK / FTO-244) and has a reputation amongst students for first class training with an above average first time pass rate. Indeed, all the students who have graduated from On-Track courses have quickly gained positions as either flight instructors or pilots within the airline industry. We have regular contact with many flying schools and clubs throughout the UK who enquire about our instructor graduates.
Our headquarters is at Wellesbourne Mountford Aerodrome in Warwickshire, UK and our aircraft are all leased from a variety of organisations and individuals and consist of Cessna 152/172s, PA28/34s, T67M Firefly, Bulldog, Robin 200/2160is, Chipmunk, Husky A-1 Amphibian, C172 Amphibian and Maule 235 Amphibian. With such a wide choice of aeroplanes we are sure to have one that you are familiar with thus making your chosen course alot simpler.
Our Team, who are a mixture of full and part time personnel, include both Flight Instructors and Examiners. Many of our staff come from a military background, some of which have served time within the airlines (Air Southwest, Cathay Pacific, Channel Express, Flybe, British Airways, Laker, Britannia) or the CAA. Our instructors, in addition to having many years of instructing and examining experience, are therefore able to offer you first hand information on many aspects of a professional pilot career.
Our door is always open to anyone who wants to ask for advice or requires information. Remember if calling by telephone, occasionally you may get an answer phone so please leave your details and we'll return your call as soon as possible. Or you may choose to send your question by email. We will endeavour to answer it within 24 hours if not sooner. Why not pop in the next time you are at Wellesbourne Mountford Aerodrome and enjoy a personal chat over a cuppa tea/coffee and a biscuit. Our reputation in the industry is second to none and all our advice is free. Happy and safe flying.
